SERIES SYNOPSIS

After a bipolar diagnosis puts her life on hold, journalist Joëlle Pouliot decides the only way she can accept treatment is to approach it as a reporter on a beat.

Over a half-decade, Joëlle documents the stories of a diverse group of Canadians suffering from mental illnesses and their caregivers — the family and friends who put their lives on hold to look after loved ones.

In the first eight episodes of Better, we follow Joëlle as she interviews people suffering from mental illness across a wide spectrum of cultures and backgrounds — and the people that help care for them.

Through candid interviews punctuated by Joëlle’s journal entries from the first few years of her illness, Better explores the reality of living with mental illness and how it forces families and loved ones to search for resources and reimagine their futures.
